FlexDS™: World-Class
Oxy-Desulfurization
Technology
Applied NanoWorks
is in the early stage development of a highly effective process (FlexDS™)
for the removal of sulfur, nitrogen and trace metal from oil and oil distillates.
The technology is based upon ANW’s patented titanium catalyst, which
provides world-class sulfoxidation chemistry. This catalyst has proven
to be extremely reactive and selective, establishing new benchmarks for
conversion of sulfur compounds into easily extracted sulfones with high
selectivity. Considered an oxydesulfurization (ODS) technology, the selectivity
and high reaction rates provide the performance that ODS and other desulfurization
catalysts have not been able to achieve. Employing near ambient conditions
(50°C, atmospheric pressure), FlexDS™ appears to be more economic
and chemically effective than HDS and other ODS processes.
FlexDS™ provides the ability to remove thiols, sulfides and disulfides as well as being extremely effective in converting alkylated dibenzothiophenes without oxidizing benzylic hydrocarbons such as cumene, tetralin, or toluene. This type of selectivity is extremely rare, especially when combined with the ability to oxidize nitrogen compounds and remove trace metals.
